We Are Hiring – Canine Carer

An opportunity has arisen for a Canine Carer to join The DSPCA Pet Hotel & Doggie Daycare team.

We require a FULL TIME animal care person to work in our Pet Hotel & Doggie Daycare with both cats and dogs. Training will be provided. As a Canine Carer for the DSPCA, you will be playing a vital role caring for peoples pets while they are at work or on holidays. This role requires dedicated individuals who are passionate about animal welfare and thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities & Duties

• Daily cleaning of animal areas following cleaning protocols and training provided.
• Spot cleaning of animal and public areas throughout the day as needed.
• Feeding animals, including providing special diets as specified by the owners.
• Exercising animals as required, following all protocols.
• Monitoring the health of animals on an ongoing basis and rapidly identifying any health problems or conditions (medical or behavioural) and reporting it to your supervisor or manager.
• Medicating animals as instructed by the pets owners.
• Doing the laundry, dishes, cleaning and mopping of all areas as needed.
• Assisting in bringing animals for vet appointments as required.
• Supervising volunteers and work experience people as required – ensuring everyone is following protocols.

Qualifications & Person Qualities

• A qualification and/or experience in animal care would be desirable.
• Ability to handle dogs of all sizes, breeds and temperaments.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Previous experience in a boarding kennels, animal shelter, rescue organisation is a plus.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with our, animal care team and management.
• Basic knowledge of animal behaviour and common health issues in dogs & cats.
• General understanding of disease control and ability to follow procedures (training will be provided).

Hours of Work

The rota is issued weekly, there is no set schedule for any staff member, you would be required to be flexible Monday to Sunday. We operate 7am – 7pm, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Position is subject to Garda Vetting and reference check.

Salary/Benefits/Schedule/Other

Salary: From €12.70 per hour – Expected hours: No more than 40 per week

Experience: Animal handling: 2 years (preferred)

Licence/Certification: Qualification in animal care (required)

Ability to Commute to Rathfarnham, Dublin 16, CO. Dublin (required) as no public transfer available.
