Tiki

Tiki is an adult terrapin who was brought in by our inspectors after being found living in disgusting conditions. He was in a dark, cold tank with only about an inch of sludgey water and no way of getting out. He really was in a miserable way. Tiki has been such a wonderful boy since being at the NSPCA; all his stuck shed is gone and he is out basking and enjoying the light and heat. He is also probably our most friendly terrapin ever as he just loves to be around people and see what everyone is getting up to. He tends to spend his days on his basking platform watching the world go by in amazement. We couldn’t be happier for this gentle baby and we hope to find him the best home for him to start his new life 🙂

Terrapins are often bought for children or people who have not researched the needs of that animal extensively. They require a large amount of space (regardless of the size of the turtle) and specialized heating and lighting systems. Yellow bellied sliders can live with other terrapins if the water space is large enough.

Terrapins need an aquarium of at least 400 litres with a water heater, basking area, basking light and UVB light among other things which we can discuss with anyone looking to adopt Tiki. If you are interested in keeping a turtle, giving them the correct husbandry and have the space to give one a happy life in your home, please do reach out to us and we can arrange for you to meet him and talk you through everything and help you with ideas for making your own pond or indoor enclosure 🙂
