Job Title: Canine Carer

Location: NSPCA Pet Hotel & Doggie Daycare located in Rathfarnham, Dublin

You will play a key hands-on role in providing daily care, enrichment, and support for dogs and cats in our boarding and daycare services. Whether pets are with us for the day or an extended stay, your work helps ensure their experience is safe, clean, and enriching, in line with the highest standards of animal welfare.

This role is ideal for someone passionate about animal care, team-oriented, and comfortable working in a dynamic and physically active environment.

 

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Clean and sanitise animal areas daily, following NSPCA protocols to maintain high hygiene and welfare standards.
  • Provide feeding and fresh water, including preparation of special diets as instructed.
  • Administer basic medications as required and accurately document accordingly.
  • Provide regular exercise and enrichment activities to support animal wellbeing.
  • Observe and report any changes in animal health, behaviour, or condition to your supervisor or manager promptly.
  • Assist with laundry, dishes, general cleaning, and maintaining a tidy, safe working environment.
  • Accompany animals to veterinary appointments when required.
  • Support and supervise volunteers or student placements, ensuring adherence to safety and care protocols.
  • Work closely with colleagues to ensure smooth daily operations and a positive experience for pets and clients.

 

Qualifications & Personal Qualities

  • Car driver a distinct advantage.
  • A qualification or training in animal care is desirable.
  • Experience working with animals in a kennel, shelter, daycare, or veterinary environment is beneficial.
  • Comfortable working with dogs and cats of various breeds, sizes, and temperaments.
  • Excellent communication skills and a team-oriented attitude.
  • Ability to follow procedures, work efficiently, and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards of animal welfare and client service.
  • Willingness to learn and follow guidance from supervisors and senior staff.

 

Hours of Work

  • Full-time role with shift patterns between 7:00am and 7:00pm, Monday to Sunday.
  • Flexibility required; rota is issued weekly.
  • Weekend and public holiday availability is required.
