We are looking for a full time Veterinary Director to lead our veterinary team of three vets and three vet nurses bringing with them their experience, knowledge and leadership and who shares our values and passion for shelter medicine.
Key Responsibilities
• Oversee and delegate all diagnostic treatment plans for animals under the care of the DSPCA, conducted by the veterinary team.
• Manage the development of our veterinary and animal care facilities in cooperation with our CEO
• Perform physical examinations, diagnostic, medical and surgical procedures on a variety of animals and deliver the highest quality of care within a budget.
• Update and review DSPCA medical protocols, such as vaccine protocols, medical and surgical treatments/ procedures, feeding and cleaning standards as well as infectious disease control.
• Document all cruelty cases and participate as an expert witness in court.
• Serve as a resource to assist shelter staff and the public with animal health related issues.
• The job will be approximately 75% clinical work and 25% administration.
• Full time (part- time will be considered)
• Immediate start
Essential Skills & Experience
• Veterinary surgeon (VCI registered, or eligible to register) with at least 7+ years’ experience.
• Applicants have leadership and management experience in private practice or shelter medicine.
• Advanced surgical skills, comprehensive medical knowledge and good diagnostic imaging skills.
• Excellent communications skills and the ability to act decisively in a fast paced environment.
• Mobile clinic and OOH overtime paid
• On call at weekends on a rota basis (one in four)
Package & Benefits
• Salary range €75-€95K depending on experience.
• Paid VCI and VDS fees, and CPD allowance.
• 21 Days paid holidays per year.
