This Is Heartbreaking

Not a second of thought for the welfare of these puppies, just the joy of the profit to be made by their sale.

Late on Saturday night our inspectors were called out to Dublin Port. Custom officers had stopped and searched a car where they found 13 puppies. They were crammed into 2 separate cages in the footwell area behind the driver and passenger seats.

Help Us Care For The Puppies Today

The helpless puppies had no access to water or food and had already travelled nearly 2 hours in these conditions. Customs officers made it very clear that the puppies were not allowed to travel under these conditions, all 13 puppies were surrendered to Customs and the matter is under investigation.

Our inspectors transported the 13 puppies back to the DSPCA where our veterinary team were awaiting their arrival. It was late in the night before each and every puppy had a full vet check where afterwards animal care staff had food, water and kennels ready for them.

Our vets reported that all 13 puppies were dehydrated, 4 of them tested positive for Parvovirus and sadly one didn’t make it. We are monitoring the rest of puppies closely as Parvovirus is highly contagious and life threatening. All of the puppies are on medication and will remain under DSPCA veterinary care until they are well enough to leave the shelter to go to foster homes.

These puppies were possibly on their way to good homes but this doesn’t make it right. The lack of compassion, respect, empathy and duty of care is incredibly disturbing. There was not a second of thought for the welfare of these puppies, just the joy of the profit to be made by their sale.

We all have a part to play in trying to stop this from happening again and again. Please encourage all your friends and family and share this post as this can not stop without your help. NEVER BUY ONLINE Always ADOPT.
