The DSPCA was established over 180 years ago in 1840. Over the years we have grown to be the leading and largest animal welfare charity in Ireland. We exist uniquely to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome the sick, injured and cruelly treated animals. The DSPCA rehomes over 2,500 animals each year.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a successful candidate to join the Adoptions Team. The successful candidate will assist the adoptions team on day-to-day administration & front-of-house duties. This is a permanent role with 40 hours per week.
There are opportunities for growth within the team with this role. A successful candidate should want to progress on to becoming an adoption consultant & following on to dog-trainer, to work with prospective adopters, assess their suitability and match them to dogs. Full training will be provided for these roles.
Please note, while responsibilities are administrative work the role is quite physical.
Responsibilities
General administration jobs:
•Managing phones and emails
•Updating website
•Making appointments
•Greeting and guiding families through the adoption process
•Dog & small animal handling required
Key requirements
•A passion for animal welfare
•Flexible and reliable candidate
•Capable of multitasking
•Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment & show initiative
•Strong team player
•Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
•Good telephone manner
•Possess a strong personal work ethic & ability to prioritise tasks
•Familiar with Excel & Outlook
•Must have own transport
Previous experience desired but not essential:
•Experience in handling dogs of all sizes, breeds & temperaments
•Previous dog training or pet boarding experience
Training provided to progress within the role:
•Kennel hygiene
•Administration of medication & feeds
•Exercising, socialising & providing environmental enrichment
•Basic training & working on dogs' behavioural issues
•Upkeep of behavioural & medication sheets
•Assisting with behavioural assessments
•Understanding of canine body language
