The goal of the Society’s Education Service is to teach compassion and responsible behaviour towards all animals as well as to humans and the environment we all share.
The Junior Animal Welfare Officer Programme encourages 3rd to 6th class students to recognise that all animals and creatures matter, not just the cute and friendly ones. Children realise that humans may dominate the planet we live on, but must learn to share it with all the other creatures. By understanding their place in the world they develop empathy and respect for all life. All classes and children who take part receive a certificate for their classroom and each child receives a specially designed DSPCA Junior Officer Badge.
It is hoped that the Junior Officer programme will give the children a sense of responsibility towards their own animals, and also for the animals that live in their community, both domesticated and wildlife.
Television shows including Animal Clinic on RTE1, have educated children about of SPCAs around the world. Chidren love these programmes and the work of the welfare officers and inspectors.
The DSPCA firmly believes that through education animal cruelty and neglect will be eradicated.
