How You Can Help

Top Ways You can Help to Prevent Animal Cruelty

Be Aware

Without phone calls from concerned members of the public who report cruelty in their area, we wouldn't know about most instances of animal cruelty and neglect. It all comes from the public, it all starts with YOU—that's why it's so important that if you are concerned or worried that you contact us. Without information from the public, many animals would remain in abusive circumstances, mute and unable to defend themselves.

Know Who to Call to Report Animal Cruelty

Please call the DSPCA at 01 4994700 or ring the your local Garda Station or local SPCA.

Provide As Much Information As Possible When Reporting Animal Cruelty

The details that you provide can go a long way toward assisting the Inspector. It helps to write down as many details as pobbible.  For example: the type of cruelty that you have seen; where this cruelty took place and who was involved, etc.

Support the DSPCA

The DSPCA has a dedicated and trained team of Inspectors. Whilst it will endeavour to respond to all complaints as quickly as possible please remember that the DSPCA is a charity and is limited in its resources so becoming a member or donating you can help the DSPCA fight animal cruelty and take care of all animals in its care.  Support the DSPCA please.

Lobby the Government for Better Animal Welfare Legislation

We need you to help get Animal Welfare legislation updated by the Irish Government, the current legislation was created in 1911 and badly needs to be changed.  Find out how to do this here.

Set a Good Example for Others

If you have pets, be sure to always show them the love and good care that they deserve. But it's more than just food, water and adequate shelter. If you think your animal is sick, bring him to the vet. Be responsible and have your animals spayed or neutered. Have your pets Microchipped in case they wander off.  Teach your children to take good care of their pets and to love and respect all animals.
