The DSPCA welcomes the announcement by Stena Line that it is to crack down on illegal puppy dealers found to be using its Belfast to Cairnryan service.

The DSPCA is calling other ferry companies such as Irish Ferries, Brittany Ferries, Celtic Link Ferries, Norfolkline Irish Sea  and P&O to do similar.

Stricter checks and searches would mean less animals leaving the country and would eventually lead to sellers and breeders being unable to continue their shameful trade in puppies to the UK and the Continent.
