Friday November 14, 2014

The DSPCA Inspectorate this week obtained a search warrant under the new Animal Health and Welfare Bill 2013 and seized 2 dogs from a premises in Dublin with the assistance of Local Gardai.  As the case is ongoing no more details can be given at this time.

“Under the Animal Health and Welfare Act 2013 the DSPCA, as authorised officers of the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, have powers under section 45 of the Act to remove an animal that is welfare compromised, to rehabilitate and rehome it in accordance with the Act.” says CEO Brian Gillen.  “This is the first instance of the DSPCA being able to remove an animal from a premises as Authorised Officers and we believe these new powers will benefit the welfare of all animals.”
