Acknowledgement of Ex-Gratia Payment from the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food

Tuesday February 01, 2011

Ireland’s oldest and largest animal welfare charity, The DSPCA would like to acknowledge and thank the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Mr Brendan Smith TD for his department’s ex-gratia payment.

All donations received by the DSPCA focus on improving animals lives. This includes domestic, companion, farm, equine and wildlife

However, as requested by the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, the DSPCA will allocate this payment toward our equine rescue programme. In 2010 almost €600,000 of the DSPCA’s funding was utilized on equine rescue alone and we are delighted to allocate this ex-gratia payment toward offsetting some of our equine costs for 2011.

The Society also actively continues to expand on its free education programme to schools, colleges, third level, youth groups, family groups and correctional facilities, etc.; These are aimed directly at promoting responsible practice in the care, welfare and attitudes regarding animal welfare in order to eradicate the cruel treatment of animals in this country.
