As you know the Dublin SPCA loves all animals and we realise that while humans may dominate the planet we live on, we believe we must learn to share it with all the other creatures. By understanding our place in the world we can develop compassion and respect for all life.
There are so many amazing animals all around us every day and we can sometimes forget to appreciate them.
We decided to launch a Dublin SPCA Photo Competition to encourage you to look around at all the animals living in our wonderful country and capture some lasting memories of these creatures.
There are three categories for this year's competition:
Under 13 years old & 13 - 18 years old & Adult Over 19's
You can take a photo of any animal living in your home, area or in the wild, more details of what animals you can photograph are in our FAQ's. The Dublin SPCA is a charity dedicated to promoting compassion and respect to all animals. We want you to photograph animals showing natural behaviour in their natural habitat. Please do not dress-up your pets or make them perform tricks for the camera but instead learn about your subject and show us how it lives.
You can submit a maximum of 3 photos for your age category. There are so many different animals, angles, colours, positions and framing options you can choose from. So whether you're popping out to the shops, visiting your local animal centre or park, or just playing in the back garden, take your camera with you because you never know when a photo opportunity might arise! Don't forget to tell us a bit about the photo, where you took it, why you like the photo and why you think it is a winner as this will help the judges decide on the winning photos.
The winner of the first prize for each category will receive a fantastic Canon High Spec Digital Camera, Photo Printer, Memory Card and Photo Paper & Ink Pack. We have some brilliant camera & mp3 player prizes for 2nd & 3rd Winners of each category.

Competition starts today and Last Day for entries to be accepted is Monday 22nd November 2010.
Winners will be announced end of day on Friday 19th November on our Dublin SPCA website, Facebook & Twitter pages. Winners will receive a letter from the Dublin SPCA notifying them of the prize-giving date.
How Do I Enter?
- Read our Rules of Entry & our FAQ's or ask your parents or guardian to read them.
- Take your photos and write your photo information (tell us a bit about the photo, where you took it, why you like the photo and why you think it is a winner).
- Fill your details into our entry form or ask your parents to fill them in. Click here to download the entry form.
- Send your photos and entry form to emmaclarke.dspca@yahoo.ie with the subject of DSPCA Photo Competition or post them to Dublin SPCA Photo Competition, Education Dept, Dublin SPCA, Mount Venus Road, Rathfarnham, Dublin 16.
