Of the more than 1,600 animals rehomed by the DSPCA in the past twelve months over 35% of dogs were pedigree according to the animal welfare charity at the launch, by Dublin Lord Mayor, Oisín Quinn, of its “Adopt a pet don’t buy” Christmas campaign. The DSPCA welcomes confirmation by Minister Simon Coveney this morning that the Animal Health and Welfare Act 2013, as enacted some months ago, outlaws the barbaric and unnecessary practices of tail docking and dew claw removal by any person.
The DSPCA had no doubt that this was always the case and have maintained direct contact with the Department throughout.
We will, as always, continue to support and work closely with the Minister and his Officials in implementing this progressive and far reaching animal welfare legislation.... Read more

DSPCA launches Great Irish Dog Walk
Sign up for the DSPCA’s major new fund raising event the “DSPCA Great Irish Dog Walk”. The event will see the largest number of dogs ever gathered together in one location in Ireland. 5,000 dogs and their human families will “Stand up and Walk” in the Phoenix Park on 28th September 2013 to take part in the 3k walk.
