Dog Adoption Procedures, Fees & How to Contact Us

kop paw printSTEP 1:

Come and visit the Dog Re-homing Centre at the DSPCA and see all the dogs that are ready for adoption.

Click here to view our location on a map and how to get directions.

We are open to the public from 11am – 4.30pm Monday to Sunday.

kop paw printSTEP 2:
Speak to one of our adoption consultants about the dog that you are interested in adopting. The adoption consultant will advise you if the dog is suited for you and your family. If it is not, then the adoption consultant will show you others dogs that are more suitable. You can meet the dog at this stage.

kop paw printSTEP 3:

When you and the adoption consultant are happy that the dog is best suited for you and your family, you will then fill in our Dog Adoption Application Form. A follow up call will be made to you within the next 24/48 hours to confirm that you are ready to proceed to the next adoption stage.

An adoption consultant will book in a ‘Home Check’ with the DSPCA Inspectors. An inspector will visit your home to ensure that it is suited for the dog that you wish to adopt.

Please note: The DSPCA Inspectors must prioritise all emergency calls. They will do their best to carry out your home check within 2/3 working days after the follow up call has been made. The inspector will give you as much notice as possible before he arrives.

Once your home check has been passed, an adoption consultant will call you and organise your adoption appointment. It is usually 1-2 days after your home check has been passed.

Please note: ALL adoptions are carried out at 10am. This allows the Adoptions Team to be back in the rehoming centre at 11am when we are open to the public. We do ‘group adoptions’ where several dogs are adopted at the same time on the same day.

The adoption fee €135. This goes towards helping us pay for the care of your new dog while he/she was in the centre. Your new dog will be microchipped and will have received the first of their primary vaccination. We will also neuter/spay your new dog unless he/she is under 6 months, in which case we will make an appointment for your dog to return to us for this operation. You will receive a FREE Health & Happiness Check Up with the DSPCA Veterinary Hospital three weeks after the adoption and 6 weeks FREE Pet Insurance provided by our partners Allianz.

For more information on adopting a dog or puppy, please please telephone (01-499 4710) or email one of our Adoption Consultants: adopt@dspca.ie

* Dogs or puppies getting vaccinated for the first time require two sets of vaccinations over a period of 5 weeks so, depending on the length of time they are in the shelter, some may require the second vaccation after they are adopted, the adoption fee does not cover any vaccination costs once the animal is adopted.
