STEP 1: Choosing your new canine companion
Please come and visit the Dog Rehoming Kennels. Please take the time to read all their profiles to see if there is a dog suitable for you and your family, for example; suggested age group of children, energy level of dog, etc. We are open to the public from 11am – 4.30pm Monday to Sunday.
If there is not a suitable dog for you, please keep an eye on our website as it is updated with new dogs that become available for adoption.
STEP 2: Talk to an adoption consultant
If you think that there is a suitable dog for you and your family, please speak to one of the adoption consultants and we can introduce you to your potential new family pet. Please bear in mind that we are a busy shelter and we do our best to speak to everyone but you may need to wait a little until an adoption consultant becomes available. Every potential adopter is very important to us!
STEP 3: Filling in your application form
After you speak to an adoption consultant and have met your potential new family pet, you will then be asked to complete a Dog Adoption Application Form.
*It is a requirement that every member of the family meets the dog, ie. all children and adults living in the home.
STEP 4: Arranging a dog meet
If you have an existing dog, the adoption consultants will make arrangements for a dog compatibility meet here in the shelter. It is important that they like each other too!
STEP 5: Home check
When all of the above is in order, your home check will be booked in and carried out by a DSPCA representative. Please note home checks take place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays only.
STEP 6: Adoption
Once your home check has been completed, we will make an appointment with you to adopt. Adoption Seminars take place on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays at 3.30pm only. We cannot accommodate adoptions outside of these times because we are busy finding homes for the other wonderful animals in our care!
The DSPCA Dog Adoption Fee is €150, this goes towards helping us pay for the care of your new dog while he/she was in the centre. Your new Canine Companion will be microchipped and vaccinated. We will also neuter/spay your new dog unless he/she is under 6 months, in which case we will make an appointment for your dog to return to us for this operation. You will receive a FREE Health & Happiness Check Up with the DSPCA Veterinary Hospital after the adoption and for dogs under 5 years old you will receive 6 weeks FREE Pet Insurance provided by our partners Allianz.
