Cat Adoption Procedures, Fees & How to Contact Us

kop paw printSTEP 1: Visit the DSPCA

Visit our Rescue & Adoption Centre on Mount Venus Road, Rathfarnham, Dublin 16.  You do not need an appointment to view our cats.

We are open to the public from 11am – 4.00pm Monday to Sunday.

kop paw printSTEP 2: Application Form

Complete a Cat Adoption Application Form and meet with an Adoption Consultant to discuss the type of cat that will best suit your family and lifestyle. Your application will be kept on file for 6 months. Please note if you are living in rented accommodation you must be able to provide written permission from your landlord or letting agent to have a cat on the premises.

kop paw printSTEP 3: Choose your new Feline Friend!

The Adoption Staff at the DSPCA will be on hand to offer advice and introduce you to cats that are best suited to you.

kop paw printSTEP 4: Vet Reference

We will contact your Veterinarian (where applicable) for a reference.

kop paw printSTEP 5: Adoption

If all of the above is in order your Adoption Consultant will make an appointment with you to complete the official Adoption Paperwork and collect your new feline friend, on one of our appointed Cat Adoption Days (Tuesday /Thursday). Please note that the DSPCA does not do “on the spot” adoptions.

Your new cat will be microchipped (read more on the importance of microchipping) and will have received their first vaccination* (read more about the importance of vaccinations).

We will also neuter/spay your new cat unless he/she is under 6 months in which case we will make an appointment for your cat to return to us for this operation (read more about the importance of neuteringspaying your cat).

The DSPCA will provide you with helpful information for settling your new cat into his/her new home.

You will receive a FREE Health & Happiness Check Up with the DSPCA Veterinary Hospital two weeks after the adoption and 6 weeks FREE Pet Insurance provided by our partners Allianz

kop paw printSTEP 6: Adoption Fee

The DSPCA charges a Cat Adoption Fee of €80, this goes towards helping us pay for the treatment of your new cat while he/she was in our care.

* Cats or kittens getting vaccinated for the first time require two sets of vaccinations over a period of 5 weeks so, depending on the length of time a cat or kitten is in the shelter, some may require the second vaccation after they are adopted, the adoption fee does not cover any vaccination costs once the animal is adopted.
